Improving your fitness

Keeping as active as you can is definitely a good thing to do. It is recommended that you do 30 minutes of moderate activity on most days, but it may take some time before you are able to reach this target. If you are new to an activity, start slowly and do more gradually as the activity becomes easier for you.

 

Exercise should be comfortable; a good rule to follow is that you must not exercise so hard that you can’t hold a conversation.  Listen to your own body and rest when it tells you to.

 

You may find the following scale useful to decide whether you are working at a moderate level:

 

rest      very light       light       moderate      hard      very hard     maximum

           

           very easy                    slightly breathless          very breathless    Exhausted

        not breathless                 but comfortable                very tired
