Looking After Myself

Remember to take your medicines - don't miss any.

Don't drink too much - you may put yourself in danger or forget to take your medicines.  Drinking will make you dehydrate.  This can be serious for you especially if you are on water medicines like frusemide.

Drink plenty of water particularly in very hot weather.  Only drink bottled water though.  Be careful of having ice cubes in your drinks whilst you are out as they may be made from local water supplies that could make you ill.  You also need to be careful of cold food and how this has been washed (e.g. salads). Locally made Ice creams should also be avoided as they may be made with local water supplies.  Buy Ice Lollies that come in a wrapper instead.

If you get a tummy upset that doesn't settle quickly, or you become unwell for any other reason - make sure that you see a doctor.  Show him your health passport and any other letters that you may have. Encourage the doctor to call the numbers in your health passport to get advice as to how to treat you.

Use high factor sun creams if you are out in the sun.  If you take a medicine called amioderone - you are at risk of serious burns from the sun.  In this case you should use a sun block.  Operation scars are also at risk of burning so be careful.
