Some tips on helping you stop

1.   Set a quit date - and stick to it

2.   Find the right time that is not when you would feel under loads of pressure to smoke with your friends

3   Get rid of all cigarettes, lighters, ashtrays and matches

4.   Ask friends not to smoke around you - explain that it's bad for your heart.  See if any of them would be willing to give up with you.  Let them have a look at this website to encourage them to help you.

5.   Save the money you don't spend on cigarettes and treat yourself to something new!

6.   Don't be tempted to have just one.  It is likely to lead you to smoke another and another.  If you do slip up and have one don't feel that you have failed just see it as a hiccup and try again.

7.   Talk to your GP about the treatments available to help with nicotine addiction.  Most of these are safe even if you have a heart problem.  If you want reassurance you can always contact your nurse specialist for extra advice first.

8.  Take one day at a time
