Travel Insurance

Don't go on holiday without insurance.  It may seem the easy option - but if you become unwell on holiday it will prove to be very expensive for both you and your family.

Don't be tempted to take travel insurance out without telling them about your heart problem.  If you have an accident or become unwell for any reason (even if it is nothing to do with your heart) they won't pay out.  Be careful.

Take out your travel insurance as soon as you book your holiday. If whilst you are waiting to travel, something unexpected happens, the doctors may advise you not to travel.  If you have taken your insurance out early then you will at least get your money back.

If you are having difficulty getting travel insurance then visit www.guch.org.uk.  They have some very good advice about how to go about getting it.

Make sure that if you are travelling to Europe that you go to the Post Office and apply for a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).  This will ensure that you have access to state provided healthcare(basic).  This may be free or at a reduced cost. You will have to pay out initially and them claim the money back later.  It is not a substitute for your travel insurance though.
