What if being pregnant is a shock!
Try and talk things through with your parents. They may be more helpful than you think.
If you genuinely feel that it is not the right time and therefore it is not a good idea to proceed with the pregnancy – speak to your heart and/or obstetric team as soon as you have made this decision.
They will put you in touch with the team of doctors who can organise for the pregnancy to be terminated. This is best done sooner rather than later.
You can be reassured that everything will be kept confidential - this means they will keep what is happening to you private. They will be able to organise things quickly and will be able to offer you the support you will need.
You can also use the morning after pill – this can be obtained from local pharmacy departments, G.P’s, Hospital, family planning clinics etc . However there is a very high risk of developing blood clots. Therefore if you have a heart condition and need to take warfarin you should not take this. If you are not sure whether you are safe to take the morning after pill have a chat with your heart nurse now. This will ensure that if you need emergency contraception like this - that you know in advance whether it is safe for you.
