What should I do if I find out I am pregnant?

Contact your heart team immediately you know you are pregnant.  If you have been pregnant before and you have the contact numbers for the Mum and baby team you can contact them straight away as well.

In the first instance they will want to check that your medicines are safe for both you and your baby.  They may need to change some or you may even need to have little injection into your tummy each day instead of your warfarin.

They will want to organise for you to have a heart scan to make sure everything is ok.

They will also want to do a special detailed scan of your baby’s heart.

They will want to make sure that you blood pressure is ok and this will be checked each time you come to see the doctor or midwife.

As the pregnancy progresses they will discuss with you how they plan to bring your baby into the world.  You won’t necessarily need a Caesarean Section, sometimes it’s safer and better to have a normal delivery.
