Careers Advice

This will depend on the type of heart problem you have.

If you go to Manchester Children's Hospital or Manchester Royal Infirmary then you can contact our own Connexions Advisor for expert help and advice about all these issues. Click here for more information

When you reach school leaving age, you will need to decide what you would like to do. Options include;

Further Education (either at a school 6th form or college) – there are a wide range of courses on offer whether you have qualifications or not. You may be entitled to an Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) which means you get up to £30 per week for continuing your education!

Training – this could be one of the many apprenticeship schemes on offer or via an Entry to Employment programme (E2E). Again, you may be eligible for EMA.

Employment – you might want to get straight into a job. If you need more support getting into work or training  because of your heart condition or other related health problems you can contact your Disability Employment Adviser (DEA) who is based at your local Jobcentreplus who will be happy to meet with you and discuss your options.
